I. Key Department News:

  • Large-Format Scanner Upgrade Supports DOI Bureau Needs: The USGS Center for Biological Informatics recently refurbished their large-format Tangent drum scanner as part of its support role to other BRD centers and sister DOI bureaus. The scanner has been upgraded with a new UNIX workstation, improved wide-area networking, and updates to scanner firmware that enable it toscan and transfer maps/documents at about four times its former rate. Training on the use of the upgraded scanning system will be provided for the USGS, BOR, and NPS during the week of August 10. The scanner is capable of handling maps, photographs, and documents up to 24" 36" in size and is available for use by any partner or sister bureau with large-format scanning needs.
