  • Support to K-12 Education: Karl Brown of the USGS Center for Biological Informatics, is serving on the Poudre School District Advisory Committee for GIS, an outreach support to education. Brown will attend a working luncheon on September 24 in Fort Collins, Colorado, at the request of Marsha Ring, the District School-to-Career/GIS Coordinator. The Advisory Committee reviewed a successful grant proposal for $200,000 for GIS implementation at the K-12 level, using the ArcView platform. Brown will serve as the industry/ real-life applications committee member. In addition to GIS advisory duties, Brown will also assist with the selection of Global Positioning System handheld receivers for teaching and geospatial data sources for the GIS education program. This effort is parallel with a number of other school districts that claim to have the first K-12 GIS programs in the United States. (Karl Brown, Denver, 303-202-4240)
