  • USGS Scientist Interviewed by Science World Magazine: On December 17, Karl Brown of the USGS Center for Biological Informatics was interviewed by senior editor Michael Cannell of Science World, the Scholastic magazine targeting high school students. Brown discussed forest fires and ecopyrology, the science of starting forest fires on purpose to ward off more severe blazes, by explaining how prescribed fire serves as a tool for land managers. Fire effects, advantages for wildfire control, nutrient release, and hazard reduction benefits were covered in the interview. The article will appear in an upcoming edition of the magazine.
