USGS Center for Biological Informatics
I. Key Department News:
- Team Plans Dial-up Computer Access for all USGS Employees. On March 2, Peter Strong of the USGS Center
for Biological Informatics will represent the Biological Resources Division at a meeting of the Remote Access Team in
Reston. The team is developing a plan to provide dial-up access to USGS computer resources for all USGS

- Aquatic Restoration and Conservation Web Sites Established. On February 23, Peter Strong of the USGS
Center for Biological Informatics assisted the USGS Columbia Environmental Research Center by establishing a new
Internet domain to be used by the Aquatic Restoration and Conservation Partnership for Marine, Estuarine, and
Freshwater Living Resources. This partnership is being formed to conserve and restore the ecological and economic
integrity of our Nation's marine, estuarine, and freshwater living resources by creating a common information base and
providing options for decision makers. The new domain is called <arcpartners.org>. (Peter Strong, Denver,

II. Agency Works on Presidential Initiatives:
- Invasive Species Web Sites Established. On February 23, Peter Strong of the USGS Center for Biological
Informatics (CBI) assisted the USGS Pacific Islands Ecosystem Research Center by establishing two new Internet
domains to be used by the IUCN (World Conservation Union)'s Invasive Species Specialist Group. The new domains
are called <issg.org> and <invasives.org>. They will be housed on virtual servers at CBI. (Peter Strong, Denver,
