I. Key Department News:

  • GAP and NatureMapping Presented to Land Trust Alliance. On April 23, Patrick Crist of the USGS Gap Analysis Program (GAP) and Karen Dvornich, BRD NatureMapping Director, will provide presentations to the annual meeting of the Land Trust Alliance of the Northwest. Land trusts have grown rapidly and are protecting millions of acres of U.S. land. GAP is seeking to aid land trusts in more strategic land selection and management for better biodiversity conservation. GAP is coordinated by the USGS and is managed by the USGS Center for Biological Informatics in Denver. (Patrick Crist, Moscow, ID, 208-885-3901).
  • USGS Scientist Presents Seminar to University Students and Faculty. On April 5, Ralph Root of the USGS Center for Biological Informatics will present the seminar "The role of remote sensing, geospatial technologies, and informatics in managing our nation's biological resources: How it used to be, what it is today, and where it seems to be going" to students and faculty of the College of Forestry and Natural Resources at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.
