I. Key Department News:
- USGS Provides Vegetation Mapping Support to National Park Service. On July 13-14, USGS Center for Biological Informatics (CBI) scientists provided Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Monument and Curecanti National Recreation Area staff with technical advice on the vegetation mapping and classification project these parks are undertaking. The products developed from this project will be used in park management activities such as fire programs, wildlife management, and invasive exotics monitoring. CBI provides management oversight and scientific guidance to the USGS-NPS Vegetation Mapping Program. (Tom Owens, Denver, 303-202-4259)
