I. Key Department News:
- USGS Scientist Assists ASPRS Review. Maury Nyquist of the USGS Center for Biological Informatics has been requested to peer review an article under consideration for publication in Photogrammetric Engineering and Remote Sensing (PE&RS), the monthly journal of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. The proposed PE&RS article pertains to assessment and management of the Conservation Reserve Program using geospatial information systems technology. (Maury Nyquist, Denver, 303-202-4217)
II. Agency Works on Presidential Initiatives:
- USGS-World Data Center Explore Collaborative Opportunities. Representatives from the USGS Center for Biological Informatics (CBI) visited the World Data Center (WDC) Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) at the request of Dr Anne M. Linn, Director of the WDC-USA Coordination Office. Participants discussed opportunities for the National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII) to collaborate with the World Data Center in areas of common interest. CIESIN is exploring becoming an NBII node for the northeastern United States. Opportunities are also being discussed for collaboration with the USGS Office of Biological Informatics and Outreach-CBI in technology initiatives of common interest.
