II. Agency Works on Presidential Initiatives:

  • TRED Receives Key Resource Award. The Taxonomic Resources and Expertise Directory (TRED) has been selected as a Links2Go "Key Resource" in the Taxonomy topic. Each quarter, Links2Go samples millions of Web pages to determine which are most heavily cited by Web pages authors, with fewer than one page in a thousand selected as a Key Resource. TRED contains taxonomic specialists for the biota of North America (north of Mexico). It is being developed and maintained through a partnership between the Association of Systematics Collections and the USGS, and was developed in part to support the National Biological Information Infrastructure and the Integrated Taxonomic Information System. You can access TRED at http://www.nbii.gov/datainfo/syscollect/tred/. (Bruce Powell, Denver, 303-202-4250)

  • NBII Metadata Training Workshop. On July 18-19, Sharon Shin of the USGS Center for Biological Informatics and Michelle Gudorf of the National Park Service Intermountain Support Office will conduct a computer-based metadata workshop. This National Biological Information Infrastructure training session is open to all Department of the Interior employees and will be held at the USGS Denver Federal Center Building 810 Discovery Training Room.
