  • NBII Joins DOD to Implement Portals: The National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII), operated by the USGS, has joined in a partnership with the Department of Defense (DOD) to implement, for both internal federal partners and the general public, a personalized, fully functional portal. A portal can be considered to be a one-stop-shop, which provides the users the ability to customizable it's look and information content, for all corporate information and applications. The portal, based on the Plumtree application suite, will greatly aid internal collaboration among NBII scientists, allow user customization of the portals information/data content, and facilitate the integration of various scientific databases and systems. The NBII and the DOD portals will be available in the September time frame for both the biological and defense communities. (Mike Frame, Reston, 703-648-4164)
