I. Key Department/Bureau News

  • Global Taxonomy Initiative Regional Meeting to Emphasize Invasive Species: Annie Simpson, Invasive Species Theme Coordinator at the National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII), has been invited to be a plenary speaker to the First Global Taxonomy Initiative Regional Workshop in Asia and Oceania, in Kuala Lumpur, on September 10th. The aim of the Global Taxonomic Initiative (GTI) is to reduce the knowledge gaps in our taxonomic system (including those associated with genetic systems), the shortage of trained taxonomists and curators, and the impact these deficiencies have on our ability to conserve, use and share the benefits of our biological diversity. Ms. Simpson will speak about the importance of taxonomy and species identification to global efforts to control invasive species, and the NBII's role in invasive species information delivery.
