Information Collection ManagementIn the same way that a library's collection is intrinsic to its value, the focal point of any information system is the collection of information resources to which the user gains access. And in the distributed, online Internet environment, those resources can be housed on computers anywhere in the world. While text is still the primary format for information, other formats are fast entering the mainstreamsuch as maps, video, audio, data, and others. The Center for Biological Informatics' role is to identify biological information resources no matter where they are and in whatever format they occur to meet a wide variety of information needs. In creating information systems that are responsive and pertinent, CBI first works with its customers (scientists, land managers, decision makers, educators, students, and others) to identify appropriate subject areas and formats. Next, this content is organized and presented to the user in a logical and cohesive fashion. CBI collection management activities support the development and organization of content on the National Biological Information Infrastructure. Text Only | Disclaimer | Accessibility | FOIA
