NBII Regional Nodes: A Distributed Information System

Tremendous challenges and opportunities face the biological and information worlds today. Increased user needs, requirements, expectations, and awareness require new technologies that provide greater and more seamless access to the immeasurable quantity of biological information existing in the world. The National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII) is meeting these challenges by establishing Regional Nodes as a systematic and coordinated approach to handling biological information. An NBII Regional Node is a fully digital, distributed, and interactive system that provides a vast community of users with access to the nation's biological holdings. Regional Nodes serve as an overall framework for biological information on both a regional and national level.

The map below provides a representation of potential NBII Regional Node locations.
