NBII Future Technology Initiatives

The National Biological Information Infrastructure stands poised to build on our solid base of accomplishments as we work with new partners and users. And as changes are taking place, an exciting future is taking shape. We are working to build an even more effective infrastructure to facilitate network collections development, organization, access, and delivery. New information applications will enhance analysis, integration, and synthesis capabilities, providing more efficient knowledge development and problem-solving capabilities.

The following planned activities will further enhance the NBII’s ability to build a premier biological information infrastructure that serves the nation and the world. As progress ensues on individual projects, links will move to Current Technology Initiatives.

  • Wireless Applications
  • Portal Technology
  • Semantic Indexing and Retrieval
  • Visualization of Search Results
  • Place-based Interfaces
  • Data Mining and Warehousing
  • Geospatial versus Temporal Data
  • Modeling Biological Systems
  • Visualization
  • Decision Support Systems
  • Data Integration and Analysis
