Biomarkers
  • Application of Biomarker Analytical Procedures to Field and Laboratory Studies Conducted by USGS, DOI and Government Clients (FISC) - general overview about the duties of the USGS, DOI, and other government agencies to check how chemicals may harm wildlife, and how the Florida Integrated Science Center creates biomarkers to help these client agencies.

  • Biomarker Benchmarks: Reproductive and Endocrine Biomarkers in Largemouth Bass and Common Carp from United States Waters   - this report provides a national and regional benchmark and a basis for evaluating biomarkers of endocrine and reproductive function. The study was conducted by several U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) programs and research centers, including: the National Water Quality Assessment (NAWQA) Program, Biomonitoring of Environmental Status and Trends Program (BEST), the Florida Integrated Science Center (FISC), the Columbia Environmental Research Center (CERC), and personnel from both the Biological and the Water Resources disciplines.

  • Piscine Gonadal Morphology as a Biomarker for Environmental Contaminant Effects in Endocrine Disruption Studies (LSC) - piscine gonadal morphology as a biomarker for environmental contaminant effects in endocrine disruption studies.
Sentinel species
Immunochemical methods
  • Immunochemical Methods for the Determination of Environmental Contaminants and Their Biochemical Responses in Fish (CERC) - project to determine how ELISA and alternative ELISA and immunochemical techniques are useful for analyzing contaminants in mediums other than water, such as biological tissues and passive samplers.
Risk assessments
Passive samplers

Columbia Environmental Research Center's Passive Sampling (CERC)

  • SPMD  semipermeable membrane device
Development and Application of Semipermeable Membrane Devices (SPMDs) as Environmental Dosimeters for Contaminants in Water, Air, Sediment and Soil - project to fully develop and validate SPMDs and other passive integrative samplers as estimators of fish, wildlife and human exposure to environmental contaminants and for use in defining habitat quality

  • POCIS  polar organic chemical integrative sampler
Download POCIS info sheet (PDF), plus a slide show

  • PIMS  passive integrative mercury sampler  (PIMS info sheet)

  • SLMD  stabilized liquid membrane device  (SLMD info sheet)
