RESULTS OF BRD-INITIATED COMMUNICATION: A meeting was held at MESC on January 20, 1999 with Robert Postle and Greg Reed of OSM and Terry Boyle, Lee Ischinger, and Robert Milhous of MESC. Programs and research needs of OSM were discussed. OSM contacts indicated that their funding went exclusively to state partners. OSM will provide us with a listing of their state grants and sites that might be interested in helping to support a MESC research proposal on this subject.

RESULTS OF BRD-INITIATED
COMMUNICATION: A joint briefing by OSM and MESC was held
January 20, 1999 in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Greg Reed and Robert Postle represented OSM and Lee Ischinger, Brian
Cade, and Terry Boyle represented USGS/MESC.
The OSM needs focused primarily on revegetation establishment criteria
for mined upland sites. Mr. Cade
provided information and assistance on statistical sampling of woody shrubs and
error control. However, since expertise
in post-mining reclamation of upland ecosystems is not resident at the MESC, we
directed the client to the Colorado State University Range Sciences Dept. (Dr.
Ed Redente) and to BLM Wyoming and Colorado State Offices.
