The Central Regional Office of the Regional Executive for Biology has several major areas of responsibility:
The Central Regional Office is organizationally located within the Biological Resources Discipline (BRD), U.S. Geological Survey, Department of the Interior. The regions of the Biological Resources Division correspond geographically to the regions of the U.S. Geological Survey with Regional Offices located as follows:
The Central Regional Office was established on July 15, 1996, in Columbia, MO and moved to the Denver Federal Center, Denver, CO in late June 1997. The Region encompasses the states of Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas and Wyoming. These states include widely varying geographical areas such as coastal wetlands, mountains, short- and tall-grass prairies, arid and semi-arid deserts and temperate and boreal forests, all of which contribute to the ecological complexity of the region.
