Some information from Mike Oehler on the double fence in South Dakota - the second fence may have been nothing more than a single strand and (particularly if the electric failed) would offer no barrier to bison.

Thanks, Mike, for the info. I have a call in to Sam Holland and if I learn anything more I'll pass it on. Regardless, the issue is one for concern since apparently fence-line contact, if not further separation, can result in transmission of CWD.

Tom,

Just a comment re the double fence. I just got an email from Bruce Morrison, and he mentioned that the second fence consisted of a single-strand electric fence. So..., physical contact would not seem as unlikely under those conditions. Still makes you wonder...? Thanks for the informative updates.
