The new volume on freshwater
ostracodes published by Meisch has brought together a wealth of
information. This will be
the standard reference volume, especially for western and central
Europe. Many type species
of freshwater ostracod genera occur and, as some of the species have a
global distribution, everyone in the world working on freshwater
Ostracoda should have this volume.
It is written entirely in English, which will facilitate its
use. . Theo
Lissenberg An
article with the latest views on the stratigraphy of the Mesozoic of
the Achterhoek-area, The Netherlands, was published just recently.
The Mesozoic Stratigraphy (Toarcian-Cenomanian) is mainly based
on ostracods and palynomorphs. The
article is in the Dutch language, but has three plates with SEM—pictures
of the main markers. As
co-author, I have a few copies to distribute.
Anyone interested, please reply to: t.lissenberg@nitg.tno.nl
and give me your surface address, so I’ll be able to mail you
a copy.

The
Paleontological Research Institution has a large collection of bulk
Cenozoic samples from the Caribbean, Venezuela, U.S. Coastal Plain,
and other warm-water western Atlantic/Caribbean settings, plus my own
western Pacific shallow-marine collections.
There are also very large collections of picked foraminifera
(and some ostracodes). Most
of these collections have gone unused for many years and are in need
of careful curation, but may be valuable to those with special
interests in these regions.
Karel
Wouters On April 30th, 1999, Claude Meisch
very successfully defended his doctor’s thesis at the University of
Leuven (Belgium). Title
of the thesis: “Taxonomy
and distribution of recent freshwater Ostracoda (Crustacea) of Europe”. Promoter was Karel Wouters, and ostracodologist members of Jury were Koen
Martens
and David
J. Horne.
Congratulations Claude!
