Quick Response Research

Through the Quick Response Research program, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Biological Resources Discipline (BRD) provides funds to its scientists to respond quickly to immediate, current year needs of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). We plan to continue our commitment to meeting these short-term research and technical assistance needs. Each fiscal year, the USGS Central Region administers a total allocation of $150,000 to Quick Response Research, divided equally among FWS Regions 2, 3, and 6.

Each Region may submit one or more Quick Response Research requests, not to exceed $50,000 total per Region. FWS regions with a Quick Response Research need that is shared with another FWS Region may coordinate requests to leverage/increase the total funding allocated to address that need.

Quick Response Research needs are submitted to the USGS BRD using the following format:

Upon receipt of your Quick Response requests, the appropriate BRD Science Centers or Coop Units will prepare complete research proposals for review by the BRD Central Regional Office. Copies of proposals will also be provided to the FWS for review and comment.
