Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center (UMESC)

The Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center (UMESC) focuses on the ecosystems of the Upper Midwest, especially the Mississippi River and Great Lakes Basin. The Center has worked extensively in the area of aquaculture drug research and development, “providing safe and therapeutic drugs for fishery management and production.” Other key research areas include large river ecology, declining and endangered species, wildlife ecology (with an emphasis on migratory birds), and environmental contaminants.
