GPS - Federal PLGR+96/II Encryption
for US Federal Civilian Agencies

Last Modified: 10/4/05 1:29 PM

RESPONSE REQUIRED:

All Federal users in DOI will be notified when their P-Y Code receivers must be rekeyed. See the encryption section below.

ENCRYPTION SERVICE:

  • Custom Service: ($50.00 / PLGR+96). This service provides encryption of each PLGR+96. The Custom Service delivers each PLGR+96 to individual locations.
    • Each shipment should utilize FedEx shipping (or equivalent, with permission) for positive tracking, and must enclose the return FedEx label. US Postal Service is NOT suitable. Shipments should be placed between Monday and Thursday to avoid package storage over weekends. See below for FedEx label instructions.
    • Each PLGR+96 should come with the new memory battery attached (taped in the handle works well). DO NOT use packing peanuts, as they retain a static charge, which can be harmful to electronics.
  • NOTE: USGS users have used a bulk $25.00 Service, with Center GPS coordinators packaging and shipping equipment. This rate has not met past expenses, and is under review.
  • Rekey Dates:
    • Most DOI receivers have a key tag covering the memory battery compartment that reads: "Do Not Open, Battery and Key 34, mo/day/year." This tag shows the date of installation of both your memory battery and the encryption cycle. This is the approximate anniversary date of your memory battery and rekey.
    • Your agency coordinator will direct you when to send in your receiver for it's annual rekey; however, this will be in 1 of 3 windows during the year. DOI rekeys in April/ July / October, and your key tag date will indicate the closest group you will participate in.
    • Alternate dates must be arranged with your agency coordinator, and DOI will work to allow you to split your rekey between these cycles to minimize your project down time.
    • William Oatfield is assisting the Denver Cooperative Site, and is a new employee assisting Rick Spengler with the rekey process. She will be emailing users about rekey scheduling and logistics.
  • FED EX label instructions:
