Abstract:

Orthorectified color infrared leaf-on ERDAS IMAGINE and MrSID image of Bluestone National Scenic River (blue_fall_04.img and blue_fall_04.sid). Produced from 43 color infrared photos taken October 7, 2004. Orthorectification accomplished with IMAGINE Orthobase v8.7 software. Mosaicking and color balancing completed in ER Mapper 7. The overall positional accuracy for the photomosaic is 1.6 meters RMSE, meeting the NMAS Class 1 standards for 1:12000 scale data.

Purpose:

The dataset was developed for use by Bluestone National Scenic River as a GIS component and for digital monoplotting and mapping.

Overall positional accuracy of 1.6 meters RMSE.

Horizontal accuracy was assessed on the basis of 34 field survey points distributed throughout the Bluestone National Scenic River area. The actual field coordinates for these points were recorded with a Trimble ProXRS GPS with real-time differential correction or a Trimble GeoXT unit with a minimum of 120 (180 unless field conditions were poor) fixes per point. The field GPS data was post processed using Pathfinder Office and the field coordinates were compared to the image mosaic coordinates for these points, determined in ESRI ArcMap 9.0 software.

Process_Description:

The photos (43 total) were used to create an orthorectified mosaic using ER Mapper 7.0 and ERDAS IMAGINE 8.7. The photos were scanned at 600 dpi and imported into IMAGINE. A reference DEM was downloaded from the USGS seamless data website (seamless.usgs.gov). The images were orthorectified using ERDAS IMAGINE Orthobase software and airborne GPS and IMU data. The orthorectified images were then mosaicked within ER Mapper to form one seamless basemap image for Bluestone National Scenic River. The mosaic was compressed using MrSID software at a 20:1 target compression ratio.
