Why was the data set created?

The map is intended to represent the distibution of alliance-level vegetation types (alliance as defined by the National Vegetation Classification system) and anthropogenic covertypes (i.e., areas intensively managed or altered by humans) for the Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site at the time the aerial photography was obtained (early spring 2002).

How reliable are the data; what problems remain in the data set?

  1. How well have the observations been checked?

Thematic accuracy was assessed with a Kappa Index of 88.77 +/- 1.28% (90% confidence interval)

  2. How accurate are the geographic locations?

  3. How accurate are the heights or depths?

  4. Where are the gaps in the data? What is missing?

This layer is complete. The majority of the park is covered.

  5. How consistent are the relationships among the observations, including topology?

This shapefile was imported into a geodatabase in ArcGIS 8.x and topology rules were added to verify that there are no slivers or gaps.
