Abstract:

The Mesa Verde National Park Accuracy Assessment Observation Location zip shapefile (meveaa.zip) was developed as a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) product in the Mesa Verde National Park Vegetation Classification, Distribution, and Mapping project. Its spatial extent covers Mesa Verde National Park and an approximate 1 kilometer buffer around the park boundary (park environs).

Purpose:

This zip shapefile maps sites where accuracy assessment observations were made for the vegetation mapping project conducted at Mesa Verde National Park. Field data was collected by a team lead by M. L. McTeague. Original field data is documented in mevedata.mdb).

Field observers recorded the geographic coordinates of accuracy assessment locations visited in the field. These coordinates were entered into an Access database and imported into GIS to develop the accuracy assessment shapefile.

Accuracy assessment sites were eliminated from the analysis if the sampled polygon was less than 0.5 ha in size, multiple sites were erroneously sampled in the same polygon, or the sample waypoint was too close to the polygon boundary to ensure that the assessmentw as not of a transition zone.
