The vegetation coverage was used to determine how many AA points should be assigned to each vegetation class and to establish a buffer distance from vegetation polygon edges.

Process_Description:

Points were located using a stratified random sampling method. Portions of the methodology were derived from the USGS/NPS Vegetation Mapping Program's Accuracy Assessment Procedures. Vegetation data at each point was recorded using standard NVCS Plot Point collection form. Point coverage created using an in-house developed AML using certain criteria for point placement.

Each AA pointed labeled with a unique ID, the X-Y cooridinates of the point, and the vegetation classification of the vegetation coverage polygon that the point lies in. After the field data was collected, the coverage was further attributed with the AA results as follows: AA_1 = first AA determination (class code); AA_2 = Second possible class; AA_3 = code of nearby vegetation; and a Comments field.
