Description:
Abstract:
This data depicts the area of Rocky Mountain National Park as amended by Congress in 1989 (Public Law 101-192, November 29, 1989). In 1999 an adjoining parcel near Lily Lake was added to the Park pursuant to the 1989 legislation. In 2000 two adjoining parcels were added to the Park pursuant to the 1989 legislation (the Roessler addition near Lily Lake and the Adams/RMNA addition near Castle Mountain). In 2002 an adjoining parcel was added to the Park pursuant to the 1989 legislation (the Sleepy Hollow parcel). In 2003 two adjoining parcels were added to the Park pursuant to the 1989 legislation (the Cook/EVLT and Hondius/EVLT parcels south of Castle Mountain).

In October 2005, Public Law 109-93 (119 Stat. 2104) was passed that allowed for a land exchange with MacGregor Ranch. This land exchange allowed for the construction of the Lumpy Ridge Trailhead. The legislation authorized RMNP to include the parcels it acquired into RMNP. This created an enclave of seven private properties along Clara Drive that are surrounded by RMNP, but are not within the boundary of RMNP.

The official and legal acreage figure for Rocky Mountain National Park with this 2006 boundary is 265,828.41 acres. This has been determined by summing up all the legal descriptions of all the parcels that make up Rocky Mountain National Park. This figure varies slightly (less than one half of one percent) from the figure calculated for this data by the GIS software. Use the official acreage of 265,828.41 acres in any documents referencing the size of Rocky Mountain National Park.

Purpose:
Data used and/or developed by the Rocky Mountain National Park GIS Program is used in the protection and management of Rocky Mountain National Park.

Attribute_Accuracy:
Attribute_Accuracy_Report:
The attribute accuracy is deductively estimated to be "good". If a higher proof of data accuracy is required, do not use this data. User is advised to FULLY and CAREFULLY READ the "DISTRIBUTION LIABILITY" section of this metadata before using this data.
Logical_Consistency_Report: Polygon and chain-node topology present.
Completeness_Report:
Data is considered complete. Some datasets are parkwide in scope, while others were developed and/or updated to address specific management concerns within particular spatial coordinates. Users of this data are advised to FULLY and CAREFULLY READ the "DISTRIBUTION LIABILITY" section of this metadata before using this data.
Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy:
Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report:
Horizontal accuracy varies depending on the source of individual components within the data. Data derived from USGS data (DLGs, DEMs, DOQQs) are assumed to meet National Map Accuracy standards, though extensive experience in using USGS data for the Rocky Mountain National Park area has shown that many data components have spatial errors exceeding the National Map Accuracy standards. Data produced from GPS (Global Positioning System) field data is assumed to be spatially accurate to within 2-5 meters.
Lineage:
Process_Step:
Process_Description:
The text of the legislation that created the boundary of Rocky Mountain National Park was read, deciphered, and transferred to paper 1:24000 scale USGS 7.5 minute quadrangle maps. The quad maps were then digitized. Additionally, sections of the boundary that follow PLSS section lines were adjusted to match digital USGS 1:24000 PLSS data. Additionally, sections of the boundary that adjoin private lands in Larimer County were adjusted to match Larimer County Assessor's Office digital data. Additionally, benchmarks and survey stakes along the boundary have been found and GPS locations collected, and the boundary line has been adjusted to these points.

Entity_and_Attribute_Overview:
If this dataset is a COVERAGE: the first four items in the polygon attribute table (PAT), or the first seven items in the arc attribute table (AAT) are automatically generated by ARC/INFO software. Contact ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc.) or read their literature for detailed descriptions of their internal file structure. ESRI can be reached at <URL:http://www.esri.com.>

If this dataset is a SHAPEFILE, the first two items in the data table are automatically generated. Contact ESRI or read their literature for detailed descriptions of their internal file structure. ESRI can be reached at URL:<http://www.esri.com>.
