Abstract for the 2001 National Park Service annual report Status of Hawaiian National Park forest bird census data for tracking bird populations. Richard J. Camp, Marcos Gorresen, Bethany L. Woodworth, and Thane K. Pratt. USGS Pacific Island Ecosystem Research Center, P.O. Box 44, Hawaii National Park, HI 96718. This report presents the progress to date by the Hawaii Forest Bird Interagency Database Project (HFBIDP) especially as concerns National Park Service data. HFBIDP has created an MS Access relational database that contains more than 750,000 bird records from all major Hawaiian Islands. In addition, HFBIDP works closely with Hawaii GAP on satellite imagery classification and mapping; Distance Sampling development team on new variable circular-plot analyses methodologies; and land managers and researchers throughout Hawaii to address forest bird population concerns. Processing of Hawaiian National Park forest bird census data: · Compilation of proofed Hawaiian National Parks' (Haleakala National Park and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park) (HNP) forest bird census data entered into a centralized, standardized database. · Production of Metadata for each survey conducted in HNP. · Summary analysis of each survey conducted in HNP. · Write-up of procedures, results and conclusions in a project report. |
