Control of alien predatory wasps Objectives:
Star  Test alternative bait attractants
Star  Evaluate the effectiveness of Fipronil using the best available bait
Star  Compare non-target effects of Fipronil with alternative toxicants (Diazinon)


Accomplishments:
Star  Demonstrated high efficacy of Fipronil for suppression of wasps
Star  3–year study funded to carry-out further efficacy studies in support of product registration


Significance:
Star  Control of alien predatory social ants & wasps is the highest priority conservation of native invertebrates (Secretariat for Conservation Biology-1996)
Star  Chemical control offers a powerful restoration tool for native ecosystems
