The Southern House Mosquito, Culex Objectives:
Star  Survey native bird habitat for larval mosquitoes and critical associations
Star  Characterize larval mosquito habitat
Star  Assess dispersal ability of Culex quinquefasciatus in the forest


Accomplishments:
Star  Surveyed and characterized larval mosquito habitats on three main Hawaiian Islands
Star  Determined the distance Culex quinquefasciatus dispersed in Hawaiian forested habitat


Significance:
Star  Surveys assessed the disease risk to birds and identified the role of feral pigs in the creation of larval habitat
Star  Larval habitat data and dispersal estimates are critical to effective disease management planning
