Early Detection of Invasive Species on the Island of Maui, Hawaii

Distribution map of problematic weeds on Maui Objectives:
Star  Develop methodology to document presence, distribution and spread of newly invading plant species
Star  Test practicality of methodology by identifying options & providing technical support for eradications


Accomplishments:
Star  Developed, applied, and documented results of methodology involving road surveys & expert interviews
Star  Provided data leading to eradication of 12 high-risk invasive plant species


Significance:
Star  NPS, FWS, others seeking effective means of early detection of high-risk invasive species
Star  Project demonstrated (through collaboration with MISC) that eradications are feasible
