PIERC Project Leader: Carter T. Atkinson, Ph.D

Molecular Tools for Analysis of Endemic and Invasive Species and Disease Organisms Objectives:
Star  Use molecular genetic data to help guide decisions on outplanting and restoration of rare and endangered plant species in National Parks and Refuges
Star  Investigate distribution and identity of avian blood parasites in South Pacific

Accomplishments:
Star  Obtained funding from POBS and NRPP programs for studies of rare plants in Pacific Parks
Star  Collaborating with American Samoa colleagues on distribution of avian blood parasites in SW Pacific

Significance:
Star  Molecular genetics is a powerful tool in conservation biology that has not been widely applied among DOI partners in the Pacific Basin
