Degraded Hawaian Wet Forest

Return to Ecosystem and Biological Diversity

Feral pigs degrade Hawaian wet forest
Feral pigs degrade Hawaian wet forest by repeatedly digging the soil (shown here) foraging for soil invertebrates and by feeding on the starchy core of native ferns. Pigs also act as vectors for many alien plants that bear fleshy fruits whose seeds are dispersed when eaten.
