Assessing Distribution, Composition, and Status of Coastal Strand Vegetation in Hawai'i

Coastal strand communities Objectives:
Star  Assess distribution and status of strand communities statewide
Star  Determine composition and structure of communities relative to habitat parameters
Star  Work with NPS, FWS, DLNR to develop management strategies for selected strand communities


Accomplishments:
Star  Conducted surveys of coastal sites on the major Hawaiian islands
Star  Identified characteristics of the vegetation and habitats for management and restoration
Star  Helped FWS, NPS, TNCH, and others identify mgmt sites??Created digital photo library
Star  Created digital photo library


Significance:
Star  Coastal strand communities are generally poorly known and heavily impacted
Star  Restoration efforts are enhanced by data collected
Star  Identification of key communities can lead to implementing management programs
