Developing a Conservation Plan to Minimize Impacts of Military Training in Makua Valley

PIERC Project Leader:

Makua Valley on Oahu, Hawai'i Objectives:
Star  Assist Army in identifying threats, research, and management needs for species, relative to a Section 7 Consultation with FWS for training activities in Makua Valley on O‘ahu, Hawai‘i
Star  Develop monitoring program to assess effectiveness of efforts



Accomplishments:
Star  Produced a detailed draft of the conservation plan for Makua Military Reservation
Star  Implementation Plan addresses all aspects of conservation of species affected by training activities



Significance:
Star  Successful implementation of plan needed so Army will not jeopardize listed endangered species in Makua
Star  The aspects of conservation management addressed in the Implementation Plan are pertinent to management of other species and areas in Hawai‘i
