Rare Plant Limiting Factors at HAVO

Endangered Plant Objectives:
Star  Determine population size of 14 rare plant species in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (HAVO)
Star  Measure flower and fruit production
Star  Investigate the cause of reproductive failure


Accomplishments:
Star  Rediscovery of an endangered mint thought to be extinct on Hawai`i Island
Star  Monitoring of growth and reproductive phenology
Star  Seed germination trials


Significance:
Star  Hawaii Volcanoes National Park now has propagation material for restoration efforts
Star  More than 90 plants have been found in five small kipuka
Star  Research and monitoring will identify threats to the population
