National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON)
A new national infrastructure for monitoring ecological systems and trends has been taking advantage of the expertise of FORT scientist Tom Stohlgren. The National Ecological Observatory Network, or NEON, is a National Science Foundation-sponsored facility for research and education on long-term, large-scale ecological change.
Costs and benefits can vary on environmental issues such as agricultural practices, climate change, fire, and invasive species. The effects, whether positive or negative, are monitored and tracked by the Status and Trends of Biological Resources Program to better understand how natural and anthropogenic factors impact the status and trends of the Nation's biological resources.
